Ross Hunter & Broadbill

Little has to be said about this famous boat…BROADBILL was designed and built from the keel up by its captain Ross Hunter. Ross as founder of the boat building company Marlin BROADBILL designed his boat with fish catching efficiency foremost in mind.

She is maintained and kept in immaculate condition by the crew. Being a catamaran the lateral stability and huge cockpit are loved by all who fish on her. The boat and her Captain have nothing to prove having held every conceivable record and having one pretty much all there is to win many times over.

She has tagged in the year of 2004 over 2000 marlin as well as hundreds of other marine species. BROADBILL and her Captain have earned their reputation by their most impressive achievements over the years.

STATISTICS
BROADBILL is a 13 metre Fly bridge aluminium catamaran with a beam of 4.96 metres her twin turbo Cummins give her a cruise speed of 24 knots. Electronics include GPS, radar, one kilowatt sounder, auto pilot, VFH, HF and 27 MHz radios.

The cabin is most comfortable and is fully equipped with galley, bench tops and television. The CD sound system is excellent both on the bridge and the cockpit. Everything about this amazing boat is spacious.

Her sea keeping has to be experienced to be appreciated this along with her most impressive achievements make this great boat a most exiting prospect to fish from.

ARMOURY
As with her sister ship she is equipped with every Shimano rod and reel one could imagine. Her huge cockpit has tuna tubes live blue mackerel tubes, live bait tank and heavy tackle game chair. There is no better boat to experience a hot marlin from as she backs up with amazing speed and agility and as Ross says "She hasn’t had one out run her yet” and that includes her current record 665lb blue marlin on 24kg test.

BROADBILL is a classic blue water fish catcher.

THE CAPTAIN
Ross Hunter has fished all his life, just like his Grandfather and his Father. Whether it is fishing for snapper or chasing a marlin or a tuna there’s not much he hasn’t not only caught, but holds records for .

Some of Ross’s achievements are 97 kg yellowfin on 15kg test , 297kg blue marlin on 24kg, 38kg kingfish on 10kg. Winner of so many tournaments they are two numerous to list, however worthy of special mention.

BROADBILL is also the winner of the largest tournament in the southern hemisphere "The Port Stephens Interclub”; one that attracted over 250 gamefishing boats. Ross has achieved champion boat on three occasions in this hotly contested tournament. In 2004 BROADBILL won "champion boat, champion angler, most marlin tagged and released.”

Ross has learnt his trade extremely well he is not just a great fisherman but plays the guitar and sings. Evidence of this are his two albums "Bluewater Country and "Northern Waters”…Great listening CDs about the ocean and fishing.

He will often bring out the guitar and play some of his songs during a days fishing adding just a bit more fun to the day.
